Cheap Homes in Florida
This page on cheap homes in Florida is a continuation of the
May 2011 update on cheap
homes for sale around the country. My wife were in Naples,
Florida in early 2011, and although the prices there were wonderfully
reasonable for a great town (we just loved Naples and condos
dropped by about 50% from the top of the market), other cities
around Florida are even cheaper. Here are some examples from
around the state.
Bradenton, FL
There are about 20 houses and condos that are priced under
$30,000 at the moment, with many more under $50,000. Bradenton
is on the gulf, an hour or so south of Tampa.
Cape Coral, FL
There are hundreds of cheap homes for sale in this Gulf Coast
city of 154,000. Condos start under $30,000, and many homes that
sold for over $150,000 as recently as five years ago are now
listed for under $50,000. That was not a typo - this area was
really hit hard when property values started falling.
Tallahassee, FL
The capital of the state, Tallahassee has about 172,000 residents,
and is less subject to hurricane damage than most of the other
cities mentioned on this page. It also is one of the easiest
places to buy cheap homes in Florida. As I write this there are
20 houses and condos under $30,000. Those particular properties
may need a bit of cleaning up, but there are hundreds of houses
that are currently listed for less than $80,000, and some of
them look really nice from the photos and details available online.
There are huge tract of national forest and other public lands
nearby.
Miami, FL
Much bigger in reality than the population of 433,000 within
the city limits, Miami has an international airport and almost
anything else you might like in a city (except hills). There
are a thousand listings for houses under $80,000 at the moment.
There are many condos, small houses, and fixer-uppers priced
at less than $30,000 (60 at last count), and many more nice homes
for the best prices seen in a long time.
Fort Lauderdale, FL
With 163,000 in the city and more surrounding it, Fort Lauderdale
has all the basic amenities, including a good airport. It also
has quite a few of the cheap homes for sale in Florida. I just
found 1,500 listed for under $80,000, including more than 20
condos priced at less than $20,000. No typo there - property
values have really fallen. This is probably a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity.
There are cheap homes in Florida in many other cities and
towns, both along the coasts and in the interior of the state.
Prices have fallen substantially almost everywhere. But we move
on to other towns around the country that have inexpensive housing.
