Cheap Housing 2011
(See the 2012 Updates here: The
Cheapest Homes in 2012.)
This page on cheap housing is a continuation of the May 2011
update on cheap homes for
sale around the United States. Many of the cities and towns
on this list have been covered on the site before, but the most
recent data and prices are here. We start this page in the south,
but there is currently cheap housing all over the country.
Burlington, NC
A town of over 50,000 people Burlington has over 40 homes
for under $50,000. It is just east of Greensboro and only a few
hours from the Atlantic Ocean.
Sioux Falls, SD
With a population of more than 155,000, Sioux Falls is big
enough to have what you need but still has cheap housing. As
of May 2011 there are more than a thousand homes under $80,000
and 20 of those are under $50,000.
Erie, PA
Population 103,000. Number of homes for sale for $30,000 or
less as of May 2011: 40. Number under $80,000: 300. This city
is (as you might have guessed) on Lake Erie, and has a cute downtown.

That page covers towns that have cheap housing based not on
prices alone, but based on the price/income ratio. In other words
homes are not cheap if there are no good jobs to support the
payments and expenses. Watch the homepage of this site for further
updates on and examples of cheap housing around the country.
